Have I ever mentioned that I love science?

Tue, Jun. 2nd, 2009, 06:36 pm

Ok - I get it. It's June, it's officially summer, the temperature is bound to rise. I can even accept that living on the northern border of Seattle and away from water means the temperature at our house will be higher than what was forecast for the Seattle metro area. Even if it was a shock to realize it was 100 degrees on our porch instead of the expected 85.

I even understand that several of my meds have the side effect of making my pasty euro trash skin burn even easier than nature intended. And yes, going about in my bra and exposing skin with no melanin probably wasn't the wisest idea.

But really. I was only out in the sun for 10 minutes. TEN. And my skin is now all stingy and tender with that proto burned feeling. And it has that smell. You know - the smell that says "your dermis has been perforated by cosmic rays which have subtly corrupted your genetic code."

*sigh*

It's going to be THAT kind of summer.

Maybe I can dig out my cloak.

Fostering of Felis catus: Nar

Since we are no longer letting our cats roam the wild wild world so close to 145th, we decided to start fostering kitties again.

First we picked up a year old male named Malone. Cut for length. )

Hubbin updates...

[info]panzerwalt is doing MUCH better. We're waiting (and have been all day) to get the results of one more test, and then they can discharge him. Which is good, because if they don't let him go home soon I think he'll begin digging an escape tunnel out of the wall with a spoon.

News of the Walter

Ok - so here's the news:

Last night we took [info]panzerwalt to Urgent Care - he was having trouble standing and had some other symptoms. They took a CAT scan, said he had acute sinusitis and sent us home.

This morning they called and said yes, he still had sinusitis, but they also saw something off on the CAT scan and wanted him to come in for an MRI. The MRI showed he has had a minor stroke. They admitted him to Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle for more tests.

Preliminary test results show that he has some arteries that are.. I think they said "dissected"?... that caused the stroke. He'll need to have them fixed (they haven't decided how yet), and be on blood thinners.

He's up for visitors. Right now he's in room 874. That may change - since he's at risk of another stroke until they fix the arteries, they may move him to a different room. You should be able to contact Virginia Mason and find his current room #.

We have internet access here at the hospital, I will post updates as we learn them.

Lions and tigers and Pumpkins, oh my...

Stolen from [info]violetcorset here's some clips from the apparently annual pumpkin day at a cat reserve in Florida. The cuteness, it burnes...

At this moment....

On the East side of our house it is pouring big fat blobs of snow mixed with rain, straight down.

On the West side of our house there is NO precipitation.

*blink*

I think I'm going to spend my lunch break taking a nap. Wake me when the weather makes up it's mind.

"111 Highway 233, City, State, Zip"

"Is there an apartment number?"

"No, I live on the highway."

Tally me banana?

Ok - so I find myself with a bunch of ripe-ripe bananas that need using. So I am making banana bread. At least 3 loaves. (Did I mention there were a LOT of bananas?) With walnuts and poppy seeds. I suppose I could freeze the extra loaves, but they really are best fresh.

Since I like to make with the feeding of people - who would like the extra loaves? First two requests gets them - you have to pick them up from my place. :)

Ingredients:
Bread flour
white sugar
baking powder and soda
walnuts
blue poppy seeds
vegetable oil
bananas
eggs

Things I have learned...

It's been a very educational few weeks for me. I've learned many useful things about the workings of a computer and the problems you can run into when you try to upgrade it )

Ok - I submit to the meme...

Post a picture in my comments of what you think describes me when you think about what/who I am.

Give no written explanation though. Just an image. Macros are ok :)

Copy and paste into your own journal and see what others think about you in pictures!
